Due to of the constant expansion of our community programs and the need for additional outside funding, all projects that were initiated by the company have now been placed under a trust known as The Mount Elgon Trust (founded in 2005). For many years the farm has been initiating and managing community projects.
As stated above, all employees of Mount Elgon Orchards and their families benefit from the initiatives of the Mount Elgon Trust which include health care , education, housing and other projects
The board of trustees is comprised of: the directors of Mount Elgon Orchards, a senior manager of Mount Elgon Orchards, a community representative and a representative of the Catholic Dioceses of Kitale. In this way the projects can solicit for external funds and Mount Elgon Orchards acts as the main sponsor of the trust.
Mount Elgon Orchards is responsible for the salaries and basic running costs of the projects, and external funds are used for the physical development of the projects and other activities.
Since 2006. all physical developments have been built on land that has been acquired by the trust.
mountelgontrust.comIn 1996 a small clinic was established by Dr. Bea Andersen-Schipper. From these humble beginnings this clinic has now grown into a full facility hospital for the surrounding community.
Our people are our greatest asset, and we invest in them through our various education programs and activities.
It is impossible to think that we can produce a top quality product without caring for the people who are behind the production process.
